The Community Photo Exhibition 2017
Since mid 2008, there have more over 300 communities got skills and training from Building Community Voices (B.C.V) to produce and disseminate the community development and community information including Community Radio Producer, Radio Drama, Community Documentary (Film), Photography, Community Journalists, Computer Skill and Sound Editing, those Community citizens are working as volunteer recruiting by each community from different provinces across Cambodia including Indigenous.
Building Community Voices (B.C.V) is a local organization which working on providing community organizing, community media skills and building capacity to community networks in supporting to Cambodian communities and community-based organizations, in order to empower communities can be developing by their own communities, and be able communicating with stakeholders, local and international organizations and government from sub-national level to national level.
Late 2016, communities across Cambodia had participated in the Annual Community Reflection workshop in Phnom Penh, they were included and active participation to raise up their community challenging, community development, and community issues, and they are concerning how to publicly demonstrated community issues by using community media skills, in order to get public opinions what they are thinking about community issues? What are they going to contribute to the community? One campaign has been pop-up in the workshop widely known Community Photo Exhibition, they finally decided the theme for photo exhibition 2017 is “The Real Life of Communities”. This is the 5th photo exhibition which publicly demonstrated the images of community development and community information.
“Everyone demands life with dignity. The natural resource is the main source of incomes for generations of rural communities in Cambodia. Without natural resources, they are nothing.”
This exhibition is one of the windows to the real life of the community who are depending on the natural resource. The Photo Exhibition is a part of community media advocacy to encourage communities working together and sharing together with various community issues in Cambodia, as well as share the real story of those communities publicly by community media skills which exposed via pictures.
The 5th Community Photo Exhibition 2017, there have 26 photographers from local community citizen across 25 provinces and capital cities in Cambodia, at least 16% as women, joining community photo exhibition 2017 under the theme of “The Real Life of Communities”, which will be holding at BOPHANA Audiovisual Resource Center, from Monday 28th November to Friday 08th December 2017. The launching will be held on 28th November 2017 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
The Purposes of Community Photo Exhibition 2017:
- To set up a peaceful campaign for publicly demonstrated about community development and community issues through photo exhibition by their own communities’ photos.
- To get more attention from public audiences about current community issues and what they are going to do or contribute to communities?
- To link communities and stakeholders in order to share, to discuss, to do next to develop a better community.
- To motivate grassroots using community media to expose their real life from their communities.
